This tour leads to the hinterland of the Andes. It includes 4x4 rides,
horseback-riding on mules and hikes across subtropical cloudforests.
This excursion may be exercised by anyone who is in a proper physical
condition and avid to mountains.
1. Day: From the city of Mérida we
drive up to the romantic colonial-styled village of Los Nevados at an
altitude of 2700 m. on adventurous gravel roads passing the community
of el Moro. Once arrived, we hike to Nuestra Senora River and
afterwards we lodge at the beautiful Posada Bella Vista.
2. Day: After a rich breakfast we have a 4-hours
ride on mules up to Alto de la Cruz (4200m). The route leads across the
splendid Paramo vegetation and lets us have some great views to the
Pico Bolivar. After having arrived at the peak we descent about 4 hours
to the Valle de los Calderones where we spend the night at a mountain
farm.
3. Day: At morning we begin a 5-hours hike from
the Paramo to the subtropical cloudforest at Mucunutan where our
transport awaits us for getting back to our Posada Casa Vieja.
